Curriculum Content
Our curriculum gives children the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to become confident, curious and independent learners.
We place particular emphasis on reading, writing, oracy and mathematics, alongside a broad and balanced curriculum that helps children explore their interests and understand the world around them.
Reading, Writing and Oracy
Reading is at the heart of our curriculum. We use Read Write Inc. for phonics, helping children develop the knowledge and confidence to decode words and become fluent, enthusiastic readers.
In writing, we use Ready Steady Write to develop vocabulary, sentence construction and understanding of different types of writing. Children write for a range of purposes and audiences, developing increasing independence, accuracy and creativity.
We are also developing a consistent whole-school approach to oracy, teaching children to listen, speak, explain, discuss and communicate their ideas confidently.
Mathematics
Our mathematics curriculum follows White Rose Maths and focuses on developing a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
Children explore mathematical ideas using practical equipment and representations before moving towards more abstract methods. They develop mathematical language, reasoning, problem-solving and the ability to explain their thinking.
We encourage children to have a go, learn from mistakes and persevere when learning is challenging.

Learning is carefully sequenced so that children build knowledge over time and make connections between subjects.
Our setting next to the park provides opportunities to use the world around us to enrich learning. Children also enjoy visitors, workshops, educational visits, performances and other experiences beyond the classroom.
